QEOMETRTC nESION OF AIRPORTS 19 CURRENT STUDIES Research now in progress at the Institute includes a project which is aimed at properutilization of the findings of the taxiway-curvature project,. The present study i s an attempt to determine the most appropriate location for lead-off taxiways. Measurements were made at Oakland and San Francisco International airports in which deceleration5 of aircraftduringthe landing roll were obtained. Motionpicture photography of landing aircraft enabled data to be rapidly accumulated. Detailed analysis has not yet been completed. Preliminary study leads to the conclusion that it will be possible t o recommend locations forlead-off taxiways for any of several speeds at which departure from the runway mightbe standardized...
