RUTTER thought Mr. Mallett's Paper would be of great value for reference, as it would help the young engineer to correlate the coefficient of friction, which he intended to use in designing his work to the probableeffect of the wateronthe pipes.Anyone reading the first Paper might be inclined to take too pessimistic a view with regard to the action of water generally, if attention wereconfined to the particulars given in that Paper, whichpnrticulars referred to the action of moorland water, unfiltered, on a long length of large cast-iron pipes...
