276 DISCUSSION ON THE DETERIORATION OF Discussion. The Authors, introducing the Paper with the aid of a series of lantern slides, said that in any collection of information on the deterioration of concrete much could be gained from properly authenticated experiences of the behaviour of concrete structures. Probably av olume of information in the hands of individual engineers was not known to engineers at large and would be very useful to them. Mr. A. C. Haxtleg considered that the Paper would prove of great value to all practising engineers, He would respond to the Authors' appeal for information by referring to a very unfortunate experiencew hich he had had with sulphate-bearing waters and soils at a very large plant in the tropics...

Discussion, 111 the ubseuce of the Author abroad, I r . A. B. Porter iuLroduced the Paper with the aid of a series of lantern-slides. The Chairman observed that some members might be surprised by the figures given in the Paper relating to dredging operations, but in works of that kind they were always of an astronomical nature. He had been given the following figures for similar operations at American ports : Philadelphia 152 million cubic yards ; New York 124 million cubic yards ; Galveston 12if million cubic yards, per annum ; therefore the figures for the River Mersey were not so high as they appeared at first glance...
