OBITUARY. 327 ment, i 1891, as Assistant Engineer to the Madras Public Works Departn ment, where he was employed on the great Periyar Project, in the North Arcot District, in charge of irrigation works, and later in charge,of the headworks of the Godavery system. From 1894 to 1896 he was engaged on the Rush-kullia irrigation project, comprising two large earth dams, reservoirs, and canals. I n 1896 he was appointed Executive Engineer, in charge of the Ganjam Division ; and in 1900 Superintending Engineer in charge of the Kistna Western Delta irrigation system ; in 1903 he was responsible for the Nellore District irrigation scheme, and in 1904was given charge of the Godavery Western District...
