Boilers. drilling machines,pneumatic Discussion The Author introduced the Paper with the aid of a film and a series of lantern slides. Mr D. H.Little observed that theAuthor had taken it granted that for a closed basin was not wanted where the tidal range was only 13 feet. Was that the case in the naval base on the other side of the Tagus, or did the naval authorities feel that where they had a tidal range of 13 feet they needed a closed basin ? It appeared that either rubble or sand was used for the foundation for the blocks, What led to the decision to use either one or the other ? Could the diving-bell which the Author had described be dewatered completely `1 Was there no water a t all left in the bottom ? Were the men who levelled off the rubble able to get right a t the rubble, and what means did they adopt for levelling it ? Reference was made in the Paper to the device adopted for checking the line and level of the blocks, and it was said that if they were not correct they were made correct...
