20 DISCUSSION ON THE RECONSTRUCTION OF Discussion. The Author introduced the Paper with the aid of a series of lantern- Mr. Harold Savage observed that a considerable quantity of exposed structural steelwork had been used in conditions in which corrosion might be expected to be severe and rapid, and he wondered why steel had been chosen instead of reinforced concrete, even admitting the increased first cost of the latter and the higher cost of foundations arising from the extra weight. On p. 15, ante, one figure was given showing theresults of tests made by Pre-Piling Surveys, Ltd ; but further figures would have been of interest, unless all the pre-piling survey results were very similar-which he found it rather difficult to believe in view of the nature of the site...
