DISCUSSION O N MAINTENANCE OF MARITIME WORKS. 27 An inspection made in August 1943 showed that all thependants over a length of 50 feet below the bottom of the buoys were heavily coated with barnacles and marine growths, which,when removed, revealed considerable corrosion. This applied only to the upper 50 feet of the pendants. All ground chains were found to be free from marine growth and in good condition. In December 1947, inspection revealed that all the buoy surfaces were badly pitted and the timber rubbing-band on one buoy was found to be partly destroyed by marine boring worm...
