The first volume of the Institution's Proceedings was published in 1837. Entitled the Minutes of Proceedings, these contained not only papers but also Institution matters such as annual reports, announcements and membership grade transfers as well as abstracts of papers published in other contemporary journals.

Mr. H E M A N S , Vice-President., said it appeared tohim that thc dockwall was in fact an extendcd permanent cofferdam of great width filled with concrete, instead of a temporary dam filled with clay. He would ask whether the be'ton was let down into a dry space within the piles, whether it wasdried in the atmosphere before being deposited, or whether it was let down into the water and took its set there?
