Prakash, ME j When the variation of secondary compression with log10 t is non-linear, the quantication of secondary settlement through the coefcient of secondar y compression, C , becomes difcult which freqently leads to an underestimate of the settlement. Log10 2 log10 t representation of such timecompression data has the distinct advantage of exhibiting linear secondar y compression behaviour over an appreciably larger time span. The slope of the secondary compression portion of the log10 e 2 log10 t curve expressed as (log e)a(log t) and called the `secondary compression factor', m, proves to be a better alternative to C and the prediction of secondar y settlement is improved...
