Soil mixing in the UK 1991–2001: state of practice report
Soil mixing in the UK started around 12 years ago. The early soil mixing work was carried out for the purposes of excavation support and ground improvement by Cementation Piling and Foundations. Not much work was then performed for this application until recently. Around 1995 soil mixing was introduced to the UK for geoenvironmental applications for the containment and remediation of contaminated sites. This paper tells the story of research, developments and applications of soil mix technology in the UK over the past 12 years or so. The paper concludes with statements on the current position with regard to soil mixing practice in the UK.
En Angleterre, on a commencé à pratiquer le mixage des sols il y a 12 ans à peu près. Les premiers travaux de mixage ont été effectués, dans le but de soutenir les excavations et d'améliorer les sols, par la société Cementation Piling et Foundations. Ensuite, peu de travaux ont été effectués dans cette application. Vers 1995, le mixage du sol a été introduit en Angleterre pour les applications géo-environnementales afin de confiner et d'améliorer les sites contaminés. Cette étude retrace l'histoire de la recherche, des développements et des applications de cette technologie de mixage des sols en Angleterre sur les 12 dernières années. Elle se termine par une description de la situation actuelle quant aux pratiques de mixage du sol en Angleterre.
